De Koning stated that he did not believe his team did enough to win the derby and also elaborated on the ramifications that relegation would have for Go Ahead Eagles.

De Koning said, ”We started really well this afternoon going 1-0 up after 3 minutes. After PEC Zwolle equalized we lost our control.

”Normally we create 6 or 7 chances a game and today perhaps only 3 so we did not bring enough today, We must not look to other teams and it’s up to us to pick up points.

”There are 7 games left to go and we have to ensure that we are not bottom of the league going into the final rounds of the season. At this moment in time we are only 2 points behind ADO Den Haag and I hope that AZ Alkmaar have a good day today.

‘ I believe that the next game after the international break is ADO Den Haag v Roda JC which is a relegation 6 pointer and we play away against FC Twente.”

On relegation he added, ”It would a massive shame if Go Ahead Eagles were relegated. Because we are set up for the Eredivisie with our stadium and fans. If we stay up we will also have to improve our knowledge of this league.

”Also for myself, relegation would be tough to except because I took this club up with the expectations of staying in the Eredivisie. It’s going to be difficult.”
