Feyenoord made it five league games without a win as VVV Venlo struck late to earn a 1-1 draw at De Kuip.

Since Feyenoord’s 4-0 win at AZ Alkmaar on the first of October, the Rotterdammers have recorded only one win in all competitions, a KNVB Cup tie with amateur side Swift.

VVV turned up at De Kuip looking to defend and they frustrated the hosts, who went close early on through Steven Berghuis and Karim El Ahmadi. Just before the break, Lars Unnerstall saved from Nicolai Jorgensen while Tonny Vilhena sent a strike from distance wide.

Nine minutes into the second half, Feyenoord made the breakthrough with Jens Toornstra setting Jorgensen in on goal and the striker hammered a shot into the net.

Feyenoord then wasted several chances to seal the victory, while Unnerstall made an excellent save to deny Vilhena. VVV barely threatened an equaliser but four minutes from time, Damian van Bruggen hammered a stunning strike past Brad Jones from outside the box to earn the visitors an unlikely point.

Feyenoord now sit sixth and eleven points behind PSV, who face PEC Zwolle on Sunday. VVV remain 12th.
