Emmen headed to Rotterdam sitting bottom of the table without a win all season and Dick Lukkien’s side were desperately looking for some confidence.
However, Sparta Rotterdam has been in good form and in the 22nd minute they took the lead after Deroy Duarte prodded the ball into the net with the help of the post.
Seven minutes into the second half, Michael de Leeuw drew Emmen level with a header that deflected off Miguel Araujo and into the net.
The visitors were only level for six minutes before Abdou Harroui restored Sparta’s lead with a stunning strike from distance.
The victory moves Sparta above Utrecht into ninth spot, while Emmen are still rock bottom.
