The right-back’s deal with Groningen expired in the summer and he made it clear that he would not sign a renewal. Hateboer has now been granted his transfer, signing a long-term contract with Atalanta.
The 23-year-old made 111 appearances for Groningen but now becomes the latest Dutchman to sign for Atalanta. He follows in the footsteps of Marten de Roon, who represented the Bergamo side last season before joining Middlesbrough.
One man not leaving Groningen is Mimoun Mahi, with the club rejecting several last minute bids from England for the winger. Boerenmacht are reporting that sources have told them that the club making the offers was Newcastle United, who are desperate to add a winger to their squad.
