The Atalanta full-back was handed his debut in Oranje by Koeman on Friday night and was one of the more impressive Dutch players during the defeat.
After the game, Hateboer said, ”I am proud to have made my debut for the Dutch national team nobody can take this away from me.
”For the neutral supporter was this maybe not the best match to watch but you must remember that this is a new team with a new formation and we need time.
”We still have the time together to get used to the new formation ahead of the European Championship qualifiers. Change will not just happen in the blink of an eye.
”Defensively we were stable tonight but we gave the ball away far too much and we must take the positives from this match.
”I had hoped to be standing here having obtained a more positive result but we can’t change that now.
”I want to play again on Monday against Portugal but I do not decide that but I would like to win my second cap ”
