Hans Hateboer has stated his ambitions to leave Atalanta this summer after an excellent campaign with the Serie A side.

The right-back helped Atalanta reach the quarter-final of the Champions League this season, while they also finished third in Serie A.

Hateboer has now told Voetbal International that he is looking for a new challenge this summer, “I think this is the maximum you can achieve with Atalanta. The results have skyrocketed in recent years. With last season as the absolute highlight. How much more is there to get out of here? Not much, I guess.”

Hateboer joined Atalanta from Groningen back in 2017 for a transfer fee of €300,000. He still has two years left on his current deal, but added, “I had fantastic years here, with great performances and a great atmosphere. It’s something purely personal. The urge to discover new things. I want to keep challenging myself. That has nothing to do with Atalanta. If I still play here next season, I know that I have a good club.

“I am now 26 years old and as a professional football player the duration of your career is limited. Now is a good time for the next step.”
