Ajax took all three points in a tricky away tie against Heerenveen thanks to a second half goal by Davy Klaassen.

hee-aja-cThe visitors travelled to Friesland with a ten-game unbeaten run in the Eredivisie, but they struggled to find their rhythm in the first half with Heerenveen goalkeeper Erwin Mulder denying both Davy Klaassen and Daley Sinkgraven, while Kasper Dolberg fired Hakim Ziyech’s cross over the bar. At the other end, Heerenveen came close through Pelle van Amersfoort, who’s goal-bound strike was tipped over the bar by Andre Onana.

In the second half, Peter Bosz decided to replace the ineffective Ziyech with Donny van de Beek, and the midfielder played a crucial role in the only goal of the game. The substitute slotted a clever ball into the path of Davy Klaassen, who squeezed a shot past Mulder and into the net.

Mulder kept his side in the match with a smart save from Amin Younes, but Heerenveen couldn’t mount a comeback as Ajax held on. The victory moves them level on points with Feyenoord at the top, while Heerenveen drop to fifth.
