Heerenveen’s terrible run of form continued on Saturday as they were beaten 1-0 by Heracles Almelo at the Abe Lenstra Stadion.

herhee01The home side went into the game without a win in their last six Eredivisie matches but they made a confident start against Heracles, with both Marten de Roon and Sam Larsson testing goalkeeper Dennis Telgenkamp, while Larsson also had a good claim for a penalty turned down.

Heracles were penned into their half for much of the first half, but they came close to opening the scoring just before the break as a Bryan Linssen overhead kick flew just past the post. Two minutes into the second half the home crowd was stunned as Wout Weghorst converted Linssen’s cross to give Heracles the lead.

Heerenveen pushed for the equaliser but failed to create any real chances and Heracles could have added even more goals if Linssen and Denni Advic hadn’t been wasteful with great chances near the end.

The defeat leaves Heerenveen sitting tenth while Heracles climb above NAC Breda to 16th, and despite a terrible start to the season (seven defeats in opening seven games) they are nearly out of the relegation zone.
