A quick-fire double from Reza Ghoochannejhad earned Heerenveen a deserved victory over ADO Den Haag.

The Frisian’s, who started with new signing Martin Odegaard on the bench, struggled to break through an ADO Den Haag defensive wall in the first half. Reza saw a goal disallowed for offside, while Arber Zeneli and Kobayashi were both denied by ADO keeper Ernastus Setkus as the hosts failed to make their dominance pay.

Early in the second half, Pelle van Amersfoort hit the woodwork with a header before Reza finally broke the deadlock on 63 minutes. Zeneli’s shot was kept out by Setkus but Reza followed up on the rebound. A minute later it was 2-0 and again it was Reza who found the net after being played through by Sam Larsson.

The score could have been greater before the end with Heerenveen awarded a dubious penalty, but Larsson missed from the spot. Odegaard was then brought off the bench with a minute left to get his first taste of the Eredivisie.

The victory keeps Heerenveen in fourth, while ADO Den Haag are 14th.
