A double from Sam Larsson saw Heerenveen come from behind to beat Excelsior.

larsson-heedThe home side came into the game looking to keep ground with PSV in the race for third, but it was Excelsior who began the game brightly with Erwin Mulder having to save well from Nigel Hasselbaink.

Just before the break, Hasselbaink did beat Mulder from the penalty spot to give the Rotterdammers a shock lead after a handball in the box by Lucas Bijker.

Shortly after the break it was 1-1 with Arber Zeneli laying the ball back for Sam Larsson to fire past Tom Muyters. the Swedish winger then made it 2-1 shortly afterwards with a free kick which evaded everyone in the box and nestled into the bottom corner.

Zeneli then hit the post before Larsson came within inches of netting his hat-trick. However, Excelsior couldn’t find an equaliser and Heerenveen held on for a victory which keeps them fourth this weekend and four points behind PSV. Excelsior remain 13th.
