van aanholt bHeerenveen took the lead on 43 minutes after dominating most of the first half, with Alfred Finnbogason flicking a corner into the net.

A minute into the second half, Heerenveen made it 2-0 with Kenny Otigba given too much time to head in another corner past Piet Velthuizen.

Lucas Piazon started the comeback on 54 minutes, with a smart turn and finish from just inside the box, as the home side started to sit back.

On 72 minutes, Piazon netted the equaliser when his free kick evaded everyone and ended up in the bottom corner, with Mike Havenaar claiming a touch which didn’t happen.

Heerenveen had a great chance to take the lead when Ziyech robbed Atsu on the edge of the box, but his effort was parried by Velthuizen onto the bar.

Then in stoppage time Patrick van Aanholt stunned the home crowd with a great strike to win the game, with Piazon providing the assist.

Marco van Basten will be distraught that his side let the lead slip, as they missed the chance to climb into third spot. The win sees Vitesse climb into fifth above their opponent, and right in the race for the title.
