Heerenveen head coach Johnny Jansen has confirmed the club will make an attempt to bring Klaas Jan Huntelaar back to Friesland this summer.

The 36-year-old is out of contract with Ajax this summer and there has been no indication yet whether a new deal will be signed.

A return to Heerenveen has been rumoured, and their coach Johnny Jansen has confirmed that an attempt will at least be made.

He told Omrop Fryslan that Huntelaar could be the replacement for Jens Odgaard, “That would be wonderful.

“It has to be someone you can play football with and hold a ball in front of you. Jens has a little more trouble with that. Huntelaar? The name always comes along. Gerry (Hamstra, technical manager) Will then talk to him. Hopefully it will happen. If he does not come, we will have to look for another striker.

“It would be very nice if you can at least get into a conversation. It is a wonderful name for Heerenveen, right? If you can bring such a name to Heerenveen, with his history .. I think he is of incredible value would be for Heerenveen. But he has to want to, haha. “

Jansen believes Huntelaar is still in top shape, “If you see his games at Ajax, so eager … That still radiates a lot. Again: it would be a wonderful player for us. We are going to see.”
