Following on from the contract extension of key midfielder Joey Veerman, Heerenveen have now begun adding new players to their selection with the one-year loan deal for Sieben Dewaele.

The 21-year-old arrives in Friesland in search of regular first-team football, having featured in 15 games in the Belgian top flight last season. Dewaele mainly played as a left-back, but it seems as though Heerenveen manager Johnny Jansen plans to deploy Dewaele in his more natural midfield position.

“We have followed Sieben for some time,” commented Jansen. “A good player with lots of quality. Sieben is a stable midfielder, that is positionally strong and good functioning as the deepest midfielder. He goes straight into strengthening our team.”

Heerenveen beat FC Twente and NAC Breda to his signature, and several more signings look set to follow in the coming weeks, with Swansea goalkeeper Erwin Mulder expected to sign once he has finished the season in the Championship.
