Heerenveen began their Eredivisie season in fine fashion with a 4-0 victory at Heracles Almelo.

Both sides have went under transformations this summer with Heracles losing key trio Kristoffer Peterson, Adrian Dalmau and Brandley Kuwas. Heerenveen under new boss Johnny Jansen included newcomers Ibrahim Dresevic, Sven Botman, Hicham Faik and Jens Odgaard in his starting line-up.

After only eight minutes, Heerenveen took the lead when Dresevic surprised Janis Blaswich with a free-kick from distance.

The game was then stopped for a few minutes as the home crowd, angry at the new name for the stadium, ‘Erve Asito Stadium’, threw eggs and a live chicken onto the field.

When play did get back underway, Heerenveen continued their dominance and in the 17th minute Jordy Bruijn made it 2-0 after cutting inside from the wing before firing past Blaswich. Moments later, Mitchell van Bergen capitalised on some sloppy defending by Maximilian Rossmann to make it 3-0.

Rossmann was then hooked before half-time as Frank Wormuth showed his displeasure with his sides first half display.

After the break, Heracles improved thanks to the introduction of Mauro Junior but they never threatened a comeback. Eventually, moments before full-time substitute Chidera Ejuke completed the rout.

A great start to the campaign for Heerenveen and new boss Jansen, while Heracles may have to enter the transfer market to replace their lost stars.
