Odgaard joins as the replacement for Sam Lammers, who returned to PSV Eindhoven at the end of his loan deal.
The 20-year-old was heavily linked with Ajax in the past but he decided to join Inter Milan from Lyngby in 2017. He couldn’t make an impact in Milan and a year later joined Sassuolo for €5 million.
Odgaard has only made one appearance in Serie A and will now join Heerenveen on loan in order to gain some regular playing time.
Also joining Heerenveen is midfielder Hicham Faik, who returns to the Eredivisie from Zulte Waregem on a three-year deal.
Faik had previously played with Roda JC and Excelsior.
One player who will not be returning to Heerenveen is Dennis Johnsen. The winger was on loan from Ajax at the end of last season but Heerenveen will not use the option to sign him permanently.
