Heerenveen took advantage of a red card to hammer Willem II 5-1 in Tilburg.

After a lively opening phase, Heerenveen took the lead in the fifteenth minute through Nemanja Mihajlovic, who fired into the far corner with a low strike. However, two minutes later, Atakan Akkaynak slotted Willem II level after being played in by Aras Özbiliz.

In the 40th minute, the game turned in favour of Heerenveen when Freek Heerkens brought down Pelle van Amersfoort to earn the visitors a penalty and the defender a straight red card. Ben Rienstra fired in the spot kick to make it 2-1 at the break. 

In the second half, Heerenveen raced away with the game as Michel Vlap made it 3-1 in the 53rd minute before Mitchell van Bergen added a quick-fire double to make it 5-1 at the end. 

The victory moves Heerenveen into eighth while Willem II are 11th.
