Vitesse’s title challenge has fallen apart after a 4-1 loss to VVV-Venlo was followed up by a 1-1 draw at home to RKC Waalwijk. Heerenveen, on the other hand have taken four points from their last two games.
Heerenveen began the game on the front foot and after half an hour they had a great chance to take the lead. However, Joey Veerman saw his penalty saved by Remko Pasveer after a handball by Danilho Doekhi.
Pasveer kept his side level in the second half as well when he kept out an effort from Tibor Halilovic. However, Henk Veerman finally found a way past the goalkeeper with a close range header late on.
Vitesse looked for a late equaliser but Heerenveen managed to hold on for the three points. Vitesse stay third while Heerenveen are 10th.
