Joey Veerman’s penalty was enough for Heerenveen to earn a 1-0 victory over 9-man VVV-Venlo.

After two wins in a row, Heerenveen have had an excellent start to the campaign and they were looking to go top of the table again with a victory over VVV-Venlo.

The hosts took the lead on the half-hour mark through a Joey Veerman penalty after Danny Post handled in the box.

In the second half, Tobias Pachonik and Simon Janssen both saw red cards for late challenges on Veerman, who was once again the key man for the Frisian side.

Despite the red cards, Heerenveen did not add any further goals before the end, but they do return to the top of the table with nine points from nine.
