With Joost van Aken leaving for Sheffield Wednesday earlier on Wednesday, Heerenveen have moved quickly to sign his replacement, with Naess signing a two-year deal in Friesland with the option for another.
Technical manager Gerry Hamstra told Heerenveen’s website, “We’ve been following Nicolai for a long time and we’re glad to see that he’s now strengthening our selection. Although he’s only 24, Nicolai already has a lot of experience. It is a player who can play in multiple positions in both midfield and defense. ”
Naess started his career with Valerenga before joining Stabaek IF in 2013. Last summer he left to join Columbus Crew and made 32 appearances for the MLS side.
