Heerenveen fought back from a goal down to beat Willem II 3-1 in the Abe Lenstra Stadion.

heere neAfter three heavy defeats in a row, confidence at Heerenveen was low going into the tie against Willem II, and fans must have been fearing the worst when the visitors were awarded a penalty in the 19th minute. Stefan Marzo tripped Nick van der Velden in the box, and the Willem II attacker made no mistake from the following spot kick.

However Heerenveen came out in the second half a different side and eventually equalised in the 71st minute with Arber Zeneli curling an excellent strike into the top corner after Willem II failed to clear their lines. Four minutes later it was 2-0 through half time substitute Kenny Otigba, who finished a Sam Larsson corner.

Five minutes before the end Heerenveen sealed victory in fine style with Larsson hammering an excellent free kick past a helpless Kostas Lamprou.

The victory puts Heerenveen tenth in the table, while Willem II sit 14th.
