heitinga bHeitinga has lost his place in the Netherlands squad after falling out of favour with Everton, but despite being linked with a return to Ajax in the summer, the defender remains in Liverpool.

The 29 year old has now come out, and said that he never thought about a return to Ajax, and is only concentrating of regaining his place at Everton.

He told Voetbal International, “I honestly do not look at a return. It’s very simple: I have to make sure I play every week.”

Heitinga left Ajax back in 2008 for Atletico Madrid after making 152 appearances for the Eredivisie side, and he admitted if he was to move back to Netherlands, there would only be one club he could play for.

“I would only play for Ajax in Holland. They play ninety percent of the races on the half of the opponent. That’s good football. ”

Having made 87 appearances for the Dutch national team before falling out of favour, Heitinga faces a race to gain first team football to win a place in next years World Cup squad.
