The first half saw both sides create little opportunities, as Richairo Zivkovic wasted a great chance for Groningen, and Mark Uth unable to beat Marco Bizot at the other end.
With 61 minutes gone the deadlock was finally broken by the 17 year old Groningen forward Zivkovic ,who slid the ball into the net after a knockdown in the box.
Six minutes later it was 2-0 to the visitors as Filip Kostic’s low shot took a deflection, and wrong-footed Heracles keeper Rempko Pasveer.
Heracles could find no way back into the game, as both defender Eric Botteghin, and goalkeeper Bizot snuffed out any chances the home side could create.
The excellent Kostic then sealed the win for Groningen with five minutes left, making it 3-0 on the rebound after Zivkovic’s effort was saved.
An excellent win for Groningen after last weeks disappointing draw against Roda JC, and they are lifted temporarily up to third place in what is turning into a great season. Heracles are still struggling in front of their own fans and remain on only one home win all season, slipping to 14th in the table.
