A minute silence was held before the game in memory of Ronald Koeman’s father Martin who died earlier in the day. The Feyenoord coach was obviously absent from the game as he mourns his passing.
Feyenoord got off to a great start with Graziano Pelle making it 1-0 after only 12 minutes, with the striker volleying into the bottom corner after spinning his marker.
Heracles responded well and were level on 27 minutes through Bryan Linssen , who finished well past Erwin Mulder from inside the box.
Both sides had chances to win the game, with Stefan de Vrij seeing a header just kept out by Rempko Pasveer, while Mark Uth curled a shot inches wide for Heracles. In the final minute of normal time Ruben Schaken couldn’t finish when one on one with Pasveer, with the game heading to extra time.

Feyenoord triumphed in the penalty shoot out as Ben Rienstra missed the decisive penalty after the Rotterdam side perfectly scored six out of six.
