van eijden aBottom side NEC Nijmegen got off to a flying start as Rens van Eijden headed in a free-kick after only two minutes, which stunned the home crowd.

The away side continued to look the better side, but Kwame Quansah should have equalised when he headed wide when only a few yards out.

Just after the half hour mark NEC Nijmegen were reduced to ten men with Cristoph Hemlein being shown his second yellow card for a reckless lunge.

The home crowd were left frustrated as the away side defended excellently going into the second half, and restricted Heracles to numerous efforts from long range.

An equaliser finally came on 87 minutes when substitute Jens Jurn Streuker swept in a cross from six yards out.

Heracles then nearly won it in injury time as Cziommer’s free kick was bound for the bottom corner, but goalkeeper Johnsson clawed the ball to safety.

The point isn’t enough to lift NEC off the bottom, but there performance was encouraging with ten men, while Heracles will be disappoineted and sit 14th.
