PSV’s last league defeat away from home came at the hands of Heracles in September of last season and the Almelo side were handed an excellent chance to take the lead after only 10 minutes with Daniel Schwaab tripping Samuel Armenteros to concede a penalty. However, Armenteros couldn’t beat Jeroen Zoet from the spot with the goalkeeper making a splendid one-handed save.
The visitors then created the better chances before the break but Andres Guardado clipped the bar with a free-kick before Luuk de jong passed up an excellent opportunity from close range.
Five minutes into the second half PSV did take the lead as Jetro Willems cross found Bart Ramselaar in the box and the midfielder squeezed a shot past Bram Castro. Marco van Ginkel and De Jong then missed great chances to make it 2-0 and with fifteen minutes left Armenteros levelled the score with an excellent first time volley from Brandley Kuwas cross.
PSV pushed forward for a late winner which they found through Davy Propper, who is being heavily linked with a move to Russian side Zenit st Petersburg. The ball fell to the midfielder on the edge of the box and his strike took a massive deflection before looping into the net.
Heracles couldn’t trouble Zoet in the final few minutes as PSV clung on for a crucial win which moves them closer to the top two Feyenoord and Ajax.
