hera linAdvocaat rested a number of players midweek in the 2-2 draw with PAOK in Greece which saw AZ finish top of their Europa League group.

However AZ started poorly, and Heracles led after 11 minutes, when Bryan Linssen danced through the AZ defence before slotting past Alvarado.

AZ pushed forward looking for the equaliser, but both Roy Beerens and Mattias Johannson missed great chances to score before the break.

In the second half AZ Alkmaar camped in the Heracles half as they searched for a leveler, but Viktor Elm missed their best chance after the hour mark.

Heracles wrapped up the win in stoppage time after a counter attack saw Oussama Tannane calmly finish past Alvarado to seal a 2-0 win.

AZ coach Dick Advocaat was clearly furious at the end as his side wasted a number of chances throughout the game, and slumped to their third league defeat in a row. The win sees Heracles move up to 10th in the league, and they creep away from the drop zone.
