After that early opportunity, Heracles took the initiative and on twelve minutes Robin Gosens latched onto a long ball and smashed the ball past Kenneth Vermeer to give the home side the lead.

Five minutes before half-time Feyenoord equalised through Michiel Kramer, who finished from close range after good work from Eljero Elia on the wing.

Early in the second half Heracles regained the lead as Wout Weghorst headed in Thomas Bruns corner, but moments later Feyenoord were awarded a penalty for a foul on Kramer. Marko Vejinovic took the spot kick but his poor effort was kept out by Castro.

Twenty minutes later Elia did equalise for Feyenoord after taking advantage of a poor pass from Wout Droste. In the final stages Dirk Kuyt and Elia went close to finding a winner but Heracles held onto a point.

Feyenoord move seven points clear in third while Heracles remain sixth
