PEC Zwolle arrived in Almelo looking for their first league win since the end of October, but their game plan was thrown out the window after only 16 minutes when they were reduced to ten men and conceded a penalty. Bart Schenkeveld was shown a straight red card for a foul on Brandley Kuwas and Samuel Armenteros made it 1-0 from the spot.
The visitors then managed to keep the score down for the rest of the first half, but on the hour mark Bram van Polen was shown his second yellow to put PEC Zwolle down to nine-men.
With twelve minutes to go, substitute Vincent Vermeij finally added a second for the home side with a header before Daryl van Mieghem added a third moments later with a lovely strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.
The victory means Heracles head into the winter break sitting 9th while PEC Zwolle are 16th.
