Heracles Almelo took advantage of a first-half red card for Excelsior to record their biggest win of the season.

Excelsior had actually started the game brightly and had gone close from two dangerous free-kicks, but just after the half-hour mark Jurgen Mattheij was sent off for his second yellow card.

With the man advantage, Heracles took control and just before the break Brandley Kuwas reacted quickly when the ball came back off the bar to net from close range. Just before the hour mark Thomas Bruns swept Peter van Ooijen’s cross to make it 2-0.

Bruns then turned provider to set up Mike te Wierik eight minutes later for Heracles third goal and before the end, Kristoffer Peterson completed the rout.

Heracles move to ninth after the win while Excelsior are 15th.
