Heracles came from behind to hammer 10-man Heerenveen 4-1 in Almelo.

Heerenveen were handed the perfect start to the match when Mike te Wierik brought down Pelle van Amersfoort in the box after only five minutes and Reza Ghoochannejhad slotted in the penalty.

However, from that point everything went wrong for the visitors. On nine minutes, talented midfielder Reuven Niemeijer slid in his first Eredivisie goal to make it 1-1 before Samuel Armenteros put Heracles in front with a lovely free kick into the top corner. Brandley Kuwas made it 3-1 on 26 minutes with another free kick which he hammered past Erwin Mulder and into the net from 30 yards.

Heerenveen’s frustration was clear and Jerry St Juste saw red just after the half hour for a strong challenge on Robin Gosens which earned the youngster his second yellow card. Kristoffer Peterson then sealed a miserable half for the visitors with Heracles fourth goal just before the break.

The pressure was off the hosts in the second half and they comfortably saw out the win without needing to add any more misery on Heerenveen. Heracles are now ninth in the table and only one place behind Heerenveen.
