Heracles Almelo left it late to seal a 1-0 victory over NAC Breda.

Ruud Brood has had a good start since taking charge of NAC Breda, with a draw and a win from his first two games giving the club hope of avoiding the drop.

Heracles were the better team from the start but they had difficulty creating chances. Kristoffer Peterson and Lerin Duarte got good opportunities before the break but Benjamin van Leer came to NAC’s rescue on both occasions.

In the second half, Heracles continued to push but Mitchell Te Vrede also got a good chance for the visitors. However, his header went wide.

Eventually, in the 81st minute, Heracles broke the deadlock with Peterson beating van Leer with a powerful header.

The win sees Heracles move clear of Vitesse in sixth, while NAC stay bottom and are now five points from safety.
