An excellent game at the Abe Lenstra Stadion saw Heracles Almelo defeat Heerenveen 5-3.

The visitors made a bright start in Friesland and after only 12 minutes they had the lead with Bart van Hintum’s cross finished by Adrián Dalmau.

Heerenveen were dealt another blow moments later when Kik Pierie was forced off injured, but they got a grip on the game and came close to an equaliser through Sam Lammers. The on-loan PSV striker did eventually net the equaliser in first-half stoppage time after good work by Michel Vlap.

Three minutes into the second half, Heracles regained the lead when Kristoffer Peterson drove into the box before fortunately tapping the ball into the path of Lerin Duarte, who tapped it into an empty net. Heerenveen went straight down the other end and were awarded a penalty for a foul on Vlap. Lammers took the spot kick and found the bottom corner to make it 2-2.

Morten Thorsby headed a good chance over for Heerenveen and in the 63rd minute, Heracles made it 3-2 after Peterson’s free-kick deflected past a surprised Warner Hahn. The lead once again didn’t last with Thorsby equalising again for Heerenveen with a header from a free-kick in the 66th minute.

Peterson raced in on goal before slotting the ball through Hahn’s legs to restore Heracles lead before Mohammed Osman sealed the victory with a stunning free-kick in the 88th minute.

The win lifts Heracles up to fourth on 10 points, while Heerenveen sit 12th.
