AZ Alkmaar tasted defeat for the first time in the league this season as Heracles Almelo came from behind to beat the visitors 3-2 in an entertaining tie.

After their 5-0 hammering at Willem II last week, Heracles thought they were on to another defeat when Myron Boadu fired AZ ahead in the only the second minute.

However, John van den Brom’s side couldn’t build on their quick start and in the 21st minute, Mohammed Osman beat Marco Bizot with a lovely strike from distance to make it 1-1.

Before the break, Janis Blaswich prevented Thomas Ouwejan making it 2-1 for AZ while at the other end, Ron Vlaar escaped a penalty for handball after the referee checked with VAR.

Five minutes into the second half, Kristoffer Peterson found the bottom corner to give Heracles the lead and it was quickly 3-1 through  Lerin Duarte who cut inside before firing past Bizot.

Bjorn Johnsen pulled one back for AZ with five minutes to go but Heracles held on for the victory which moves them on to seven points and level with AZ.
