Heracles Almelo have signed Jong Ajax defender Navajo Bakboord on a two-year deal with the option to extend.

The 20-year-old right-back played 22 times for Jong Ajax in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie this season but his chances of first-team football in Amsterdam looked bleak.

Bakboord has now decided to leave for Heracles, becoming the club’s first summer recruit. He told the Heracles website, “I think I am ready to take a step up. It seems like a great challenge to play in the Eredivisie. I want to take steps and show who Navajo Bakboord is.”

Bakboord is set to challenge captain Tim Breuker’s for the starting right-back slot in Almelo.
