Heracles Almelo’s excellent start to the campaign continued on Sunday as they defeated FC Emmen 2-1.

With four wins in their opening six games, Heracles went into the game full of confidence and they found themselves 2-0 up in the opening eight minutes. Brandley Kuwas burst through the visitors defence in the sixth minute before slotting in on the rebound after his initial strike was kept out. Moments later, Kristoffer Peterson fired in Heracles second for his 8th goal of the campaign already.

Emmen settled into the game but were dealt a blow with former Heracles midfielder Reuven Niemeijer forced off after colliding with goalkeeper Janis Blaswich. Before the break, Blaswich was forced into two excellent saves to deny Jafar Arias and Glenn Bijl.

Kuwas nearly made it 3-0 in the second half with a lovely free-kick which was tipped round the post by Kjell Scherpen. With twenty minutes left, Emmen were awarded a penalty when Bart van Hintum blocked off Anco Jensen, who stepped up to make it 2-1.

Emmen went searching for an equaliser but Heracles held on to temporarily climb above Feyenoord into third. Emmen sit 12th.
