Wesley Hoedt has admitted he should never have joined Southampton from Lazio.

Southampton signed Hoedt from Lazio back in 2017 for around €17 million but his time in England was not a success.

Speaking to Sport/Voetbal Magazine, Hoedt said, “I should never have gone to Southampton, the transfer was a mistake.”

He went on to add, “I made a mistake. I had a five-year contract with Lazio. After two years they wanted to upgrade this contract and break it open for five years. Then Southampton came around with a contract that could not be refused. Every player wants to play in the best competition in the world, the Premier League.”

Hoedt is not happy with current Saints boss Ralph Hasenhüttl, “Ralph Hasenhüttl told me he wanted me a second chance. That chance never came. I trained extremely hard for six weeks, but it was all for nothing. After a new conversation with him I decided to seek my salvation somewhere else. ”

The Dutch international is currently on loan at Royal Antwerp in Belgium.
