Dutch defender Jos Hooiveld has announced his retirement from football at the age of 35.

The defender took to Instagram to announce that he has retired after finishing the season with Orange County SC.

He wrote, “My life has been enriched by football. I am a fan of most clubs where I have played. I could not have wished for more. To all youngsters: enjoy every minute, before you know it’s done and you will write this on Instagram too. “

Hooiveld started his career with Heerenveen before spells with many clubs around Europe including Celtic, AIK, Southampton, Norwich City, Millwall and FC Twente.

The centre-back made four appearances for Netherlands U19’s but never earned a cap for the full Dutch national team.
