Ajax have finally recorded their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Groningen. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar netted on his first league start for the club since returning this summer.

The defeat to Rosenborg at home in midweek has already seen the pressure on new boss Marcel Keizer increase. He decided to ring the changes for the visit of Groningen with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Vaclav Cerny and Frenkie de Jong all starting.

The hosts started brightly with Cerny seeing a shot blocked before Hakim Ziyech struck the inside of the post from the edge of the area. Eventually, the opener came seven minutes before the break with Ziyech crossing for Huntelaar to head in his first goal since re-signing for the club.

Shortly after the break, it was 2-0 for Ajax with Ziyech finding space in the box after being played through by Cerny before steering his shot past Sergio Padt.

Oussama Idrissi pulled one back for Groningen with a stunning strike past Andre Onana and into the top corner. However, any nerves in the ArenA were soon settled by substitute Lasse Schone who lashed in a third goal.

The first win of the season will come as a big relief for Keizer and they now head to Norway in midweek looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit.
