As back up keeper Meerits needs an operation upon his knee, Vitesse immediately recalled Room from Deventer and he joined up with Peter Bosz’ squad today.
The Go Ahead Eagles camp reacted disappointed to Room’s premature departure, speaking on the club’s web site boss Foeke Booy said: “This is cruel luck. We can do absolutely nothing about this as there was a clause in his loan deal saying Vitesse could recall him in the event of an injury to their keepers. We had no other option than to agree to this clause or we wouldnt have had Eloy here in the first place. I have spoken to him about this situation and thanked him for his time here. He told me he would have loved to stay here but it’s not happening unfortunately”
Mo Allach, Vitesse’s technical director showed some empathy with Eagles but also said Vitesse felt it necessary to recall him. “”We’re sorry for them to recall a good player, but we also know that he has improved due to his loan spell there over the passed six months.
Now that Room has returned to Arnhem, Go Ahead are left behind with Erik Cummins, Patrick ter Mate and Ruben Lucas, wh0 have just three Eredivisie appearance between them.
Cummins played three times for FC Utrecht before joining the Eagles in the summer and seems the most likely replacement between the sticks.
