Willem II still have a chance of reaching the European playoffs after a 3-2 victory over De Graafschap.

Willem II surprised everyone with the January signing of Alexander Isak from Borussia Dortmund and the Swedish talent is proving to be an excellent recruit.

Isak opened the scoring on 13 minute when he diverted a shot by Vangelis Pavlidis into the net. The forward then made it 2-0 ten minutes later, brushing off his marker to slot in after a long kick by Timon Wellenreuther.

In the 33rd minute, Bart Straalman pulled one back for De Graafschap with a header. However, the home side couldn’t find an equaliser and Willem II restored their two goal lead after the hour mark. Fernando Lewis finished off a cross.

A penalty by Youssef El Jebli made it 3-2 and set up an exciting last twenty minutes, which Willem II survived to secure all three points.

The win means Willem II stay 11th but are now two points off eighth, which may be a European playoff spot if they lose to Ajax in the KNVB Cup final. De Graafschap remains second bottom.
