The former defender is making a name for himself in the English Championship as head coach of Reading FC and he is being heavily linked with West Ham United.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Stam was asked about the Dutch national team and if he would say yes if the KNVB offered him the job.

Stam responded, “I say no.

“I’m not a coach for the national team. I am a young coach, who wants every day to work with a team. I first want to build my career in club football. When I’m older and I might get a chance, I say maybe yes. But at the moment it is not for me. ”

Stam also advised the KNVB to take their time in replacing Danny Blind, “Sometimes you see that clubs want a new manager and they decide very quickly. But it is better to do it quietly at first, sketching a good profile of the trainer you are looking for, and then choose.”
