Vincent Janssen was once again the hero for AZ Alkmaar as the striker’s two goals saw his side down Willem II 2-0 in Tilburg.

janssen az jffJanssen was named in the provisional Netherlands squad for the first time last week, and the striker has given Danny Blind more to think about as he prepares to name his final squad for the games with England and France.

In the first half the striker was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty, and just before the break he saw a goal disallowed for offside. After the break Derrick Luckassen saw a shot strike the bar as AZ went in search for a deserved lead.

On 68 minutes Funso Ojo handled in the box, and Janssen struck in the penalty to finally get his 18th league goal of the season. Janssen’s 19th followed soon after as he played a one-two with Joris van Overeem before curling a strike into the top corner.

A hectic ending saw Thom Haye avoid a red card for a alleged headbutt, while van Overeem came close to finding AZ’s third. The win puts AZ back to third, while Willem II remain 15th.
