johannsson dkdThe American international joined AZ Alkmaar in January 2013 from Aarhus, but had to wait for his chance in the starting eleven, as Jozy Altidore was first choice forward at the club.

However with Altidore leaving for Sunderland last summer, Johannsson was named the new first choice striker in the side, and he did not disappoint, scoring 17 goals in 32 league games. Only Alfred Finnbogason and Graziano Pelle scored more in the Eredivisie.

Johannsson has now been awarded for his great season with a new deal, even though he still had another three years to run on his current contract.

This summer, Johannsson will be at the World Cup in Brazil with the USA squad, as the forward’s nation face Ghana, Germany and Portugal in the group stages.
