The Amsterdam club made a late move for John in the summer, but after Benfica suffered a number of injuries they rejected the deal.
However the ex-Twente winger has hardly featured for the Portuguese giants this season, with John only making six appearances, and netting once.
Now Ajax coach Frank de Boer has admitted the club are very interested in signing the 21 year old when the transfer window opens in January. Ajax have struggled with the wing positions so far this season, and De Boer see’s John as the perfect player to solve their problem.
De Boer toldĀ ‘Dit is mijn club’ on Amsterdam station AT5, “He is number one on my wishlist.”
“We do not currently have the classic left-and right winger.I would like to see him come to Amsterdam.”
A loan or permanent move in January may also help John get the minutes he needs to impress national team boss Louis van Gaal, and win a place in Netherlands World Cup squad next summer.
