AZ completely dominated the first half but went into the break only one goal ahead. When Mimoun Mahi equlised in the second half they failed to react and went away from the Euroborg with a point.

van den Brom said, ”I thought we played well during the first-half and we created chances but we could not score. The fact that Sergio Padt is man of the match speaks volumes.

”At half- time I warned the players about FC Groningen who when playing at home really try for their supporters and that they would go for it in the second-half and we had to match that.

”I am not satisfied with how we played especially during the first ten minutes of the second half.

”After two difficult defeats to Excelsior Rotterdam and Feyenoord in previous Eredivisie games we have now picked up a point. But as a manager I also look at the way we play.

”We trained well the whole week and I believe that we should have won today and I consider it two points dropped.”
