According to Catalan newspaper ‘Sport’ Juventus are currently leading the race to sign Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt ahead of Barcelona.

Sport is reporting that a meeting took place recently between De Ligt and representatives from Barcelona. The 19-year-old was said to be enthusiastic about a move to Spain but made it clear he was open to other others due to Barcelona’s inability to guarantee him a starting spot.

Juventus lead the race as they are willing to part with €80 million for the defender, while Barcelona don’t have the financial means to do the deal.

Frenkie de Jong is said to be more of a priority for Barcelona, despite reports that he is close to a move to PSG.

Juventus have an ageing backline and are keen to do a deal for De Ligt as they look to rejuvinate their squad in the summer.
