Vitesse signed the right-back from Sparta Prague back in January 2018 and the 24-year-old went on to make 65 appearances for the club.
However, Vitesse couldn’t turn down a bid of around €8 million from Russia giants Zenit st Petersburg. Technical director Mo Allach told the club’s website, “It is a last-minute transfer, but we are not in the financial position to reject such a substantial offer.
“Kara has made a great impression with us. As a reward, he has forced a transfer to Zenit, a top club with which he will also play in the UEFA Champions League. It is once again a sign that Vitesse can be an ideal club for talented players to develop further.”
At Zenit, Karavaev can prepare for Champions League football in a group containing Benfica, Olympique Lyon and RB Leipzig.
