Huntelaar represented Ajax between 2006 and 2008 but only lifted the KNVB Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield before leaving for Real Madrid. Speaking to the Ajax website after completing his return to the club, the 33-year-old stated his goal is to lift the league title.

Huntelaar said, ”My role here at Ajax is clear. I have not returned to Amsterdam to wind down my career. Last season Ajax played almost 60 official games and you can’t do that with only one striker.

” I feel really fit and I am already looking forward to pre-season at the end of June. In my previous stint at Ajax, I won cups but never the league title. That is the goal at the end of the coming season to lift the Eredivisie shield up with the rest of the team.”

Huntelaar returns to Ajax after eight and a half years away. He previously played for FC Schalke 04, AC Milan, Real Madrid and SC Heerenveen.
