Werder Bremen will remain in the Bundesliga after a 2-2 draw at Heidenheim on Monday evening.

After the 0-0 draw at home last week, Werder Bremen headed to Heidenheim in trouble of being relegated. Davy Klaassen captained Werder Bremen for the crucial clash.

After only three minutes, Norman Theuerkauf scored an own goal to give Werder Bremen the lead. That proved to be the only goal until the 85th minute when Tim Kleindienst equalised.

Heidenheim pushed forward looking for the winner but late in injury time, Ludwig Augustinsson made it 2-1 for Werder Bremen. A late penalty saw Heidenheim level but it was too late.

Werder Bremen remains in the Bundesliga, and it is now unlikely that Klaassen will be returning to Ajax this summer. The midfielder had been linked with a return to Amsterdam as a possible replacement for Donny van de Beek, should he go down with Werder Bremen.
