The second round of the KNVB Cup continued on Wednesday night. Below is a round-up of all the action.

De Dijk 1-4 Ajax

Ajax are safely through to the third round after a convincing 4-1 win over De Dijk.

Marcel Keizer made wholesale changes to the side that beat Feyenoord at the weekend, but his young side took the lead on 16 minutes with Frenkie de Jong bustling his way into the box before calmly slotting into the net. The midfielder then set up Siem de jong to make it 2-0 on 26 minutes. Siem de Jong then prodded in a fantastic pass from Carel Eiting to make it 3-0 before Vaclav Cerny added a fourth on 46 minutes.

Nabil El Gouarari pulled one back for the amateur side with a nice header past Benjamin van Leer, but Ajax comfortably saw out the final half-hour to confirm their place in the next round. The only worry for the Amsterdammers is a serious looking injury for Cerny, which saw the winger stretchered off in the second half.

Feyenoord 4-1 AVV Swift

Sam Larsson netted a hat-trick as Feyenoord saw off amateur side AVV Swift, who knocked out Vitesse in the last round.

It seemed Feyenoord were in for an easy evening when Sam Larsson put them ahead after only eight minutes with a lovely free kick, and then minutes later AVV Swift were reduced to ten men. Nick Gabel brought down Larsson in the box earning him a red and Feyenoord a penalty, which Michiel Kramer missed.

Despite the man advantage, Feyenoord struggled to kill the game off but eventually added a second through Larsson just before the break.

Six minutes into the second half, Max van Wakeren fired a strike past Kenneth Vermeer to get 10-man AVV Swift back into the game, and they came close to an equaliser soon after. However, Vermeer kept out Van Wakeren’s free kick.

Feyenoord were far from impressive, but Kramer put the game to bed by making it 3-1, before Larsson completed his hat-trick after a nice combination with Emil Hansson.

VVV Venlo 3-1 Utrecht

After a hammering by AZ in the league at the weekend, Utrecht are also out of the cup after a defeat to VVV Venlo.

The hosts took the lead in the second minute through Lennart Thy before Torino Hunte made it 2-0 later in the first half. Utrecht were reduced to ten men early in the second half when Willem Janssen was shown his second yellow, but Gyrano Kerk pulled one back for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Utrecht pushed for an equaliser, but Moreno Rutten made it 3-1 late on to seal VVV’s progression.

Roda JC 3-1 Groningen

Roda JC may be bottom of the Eredivisie but they are into the KNVB Cup third round after knocking out Groningen, who were without the suspended Mimoun Mahi and Oussama Idrissi.

Tsiy Ndenge put Roda JC ahead just before the break, but Juninho Bacuna drew Groningen level on the hour mark with a chip over Hidde Jurjus.

Ndenge headed in his second of the game to put Roda JC Back in front before Mikhail Rosheuvel wrapped up the win in injury time.

Willem II 2-1 Heerenveen

Willem II made Heerenveen pay for a host of missed chances and booked their place in the next round of the cup.

The Frisians dominated the first half but missed chances through Denzel Dumfries and Martin Odegaard. In the 48th minute, Ben Rienstra fired Willem II ahead, but Reza equalised swiftly for the visitors.

On the hour mark, an error by Lucas Woudenberg presented Fran Sol with the opportunity to put Willem II ahead, and the in-form Spaniard didn’t let his side down. Heerenveen failed to find an equaliser before the end as Willem II goalkeeper Mattijs Branderhorst earned his side their place in the next round.

Other results: Heracles 3-1 Hoek
